~Russ - To store Amazon S3 objects using the Amazon Glacier storage option, you define archival rules for a set of objects in your Amazon S3 bucket, specifying a prefix and a time period. Following are the directions from the AWS e-mail. Since files are still listed in S3, they won't be re-archived and you don't technically need to sign up for the Glacier service. I tried this my self, and after a file is sent to Glacier, it is still listed in S3 but the storage class changes from 'Standard' or 'Reduced Redundancy' to 'Glacier'.
You can now set your S3 buckets to archive to Glacier eliminating the need to back-up to Glacier in the first place.
'Good news everyone!' I received a notice from Amazon Web Services.
